SUBSIDIES
Dutch companies and institutions involved in development projects in selected developing countries are eligible to receive subsidies or grants under several business incentive instruments. The following programs provide such subsidies to projects in the Philippines.
(1) PSI – Private Sector Investor Programme
PSI is designed to support Dutch (or foreign) business investments in emerging markets, in cooperation with local businesses. The programme stimulates innovative pilot projects in commercial sectors, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the local private sector. For more information, please visit www.evd.nl.
(2) ORIO: Facility for Infrastructure Development
ORIO (Facility for Infrastructure Development) is a grant facility funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the responsibility of the Minister of Development Cooperation.
ORIO contributes to the development, implementation (construction and/or renovation) operation and maintenance of public infrastructure in developing countries. For more information, please visit ww.evd.nl.
(3) FMO – Netherlands Development Finance Company
This is the Netherlands’ international development bank. It primarily provides soft loans to business projects in developing countries. It also participates in equity investments in commercial undertakings, in cooperation with other foreign development banks. It has a subsidiary known as NIO – Netherlands Investment Bank for Developing Countries.
OTHER ASSISTANCE SERVICES
(1) PUM – Netherlands Senior Experts. This program provides Dutch technical experts for business projects in developing countries. These experts are usually retired management executives who volunteer as consultants without pay. PUM pays for the international transportation, and the local companies are expected to shoulder the accommodation and daily food allowance.
(2) CBI – Center for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries. This agency sends consultants to assist business projects in developing countries.
CBI also conducts business training courses in Rotterdam. The cost of travel and lodging of businessmen and staff of business support organizations from the Philippines are shouldered by CBI. CBI also sponsors the participation of exporters in certain European trade fairs.
(3) BiD Network - Business in Development Network (BiD Network) is providing a series of investment guides on SME finance in emerging markets aimed at making your investment in these exiting markets a reality. These guides provide valuable insights such as:
- How to plan, manage and successfully exit from your investment in an SME in an emerging market.
- Detailed information on the financial and business services available to SMEs locally, as well as the facilities and incentives available to you as a foreign investor.
- How to find investment opportunities, navigate the regulatory framenwork, and manage the specific risks of investing in SMEs in emerging markets.
