Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya, as Asia Group coordinator, chaired the Asia Group meeting of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on 8 September 2021, at the OPCW Headquarters, The Hague, wherein the OPCW Director General Fernando Arias gave a briefing on the progress of the ongoing construction of the Centre of Chemistry and Technology (ChemTech Center), highlighting the role of the contributions by States Parties on the initiative.

On 9 April 2021, the Philippines gave a financial contribution to a special OPCW Trust Fund to support the construction of the ChemTech Center.

The ChemTech Center will strengthen the OPCW’s capability against new and emerging chemical weapons threats and support capacity building among OPCW Member States.

The Philippines’ support is in line with its commitment to disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, notably chemical weapons.
