The Hague, the Netherlands— The Philippine Embassy in the Hague hosted an online briefing by Dr. Imee Su Martinez, member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and professor at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of the Philippines, on the work of the Scientific Advisory Board, and on scientific advances and new developments with implications to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), on 14 October 2021.
The briefing was attended by representatives from different Philippine government agencies that are involved and related to the Philippine implementation of the Chemical Weapons Conventions, namely the Anti-Terrorism Council-Program Management Center (ATC-PMC) which is also the Philippine National Authority to the CWC, the Department of Foreign Affairs-United Nations and International Organizations Office (DFA-UNIO), the Department of Trade and Industry - Strategic Trade Management Office (STMO), the Department of Science and Technology – Industrial Technology and Development Institute (ITDI), the Bureau of Customs, and the Armed Force of the Philippines.
Joining them were Filipino professionals working in the OPCW; Dr. Carina Ramos of the OPCW Laboratory and Atty. Sharon Rivera of the International Cooperation and Assistance Division. The OPCW is based in The Hague, the Netherlands.
The briefing also provided an opportunity to discuss OPCW’s capacity building opportunities for Filipinos, and possible future projects and activities that will form part of Philippine compliance to the Convention.
