The Philippine Embassy, in coordination with Tulong Kabayan Netherlands (MCVO, FilMis and SARO Community) and Couples for Christ – The Netherlands, conducted the forum “Usapang OFW for Filipino Migrants in The Netherlands” on 18 May in Amsterdam. The forum coincided with the visit of Labor Attache (non-resident) Delmer R. Cruz who is based in the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Berlin.

Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya conveyed appreciation for the opportunity to meet with Filipinos in Amsterdam and provide them with updates on the labor programs and related matters. He thanked Labor Attache Cruz for visiting the Netherlands and conducting a series of activities for the benefit of Filipino workers.

The Ambassador underscored the commitment of the Philippine Government, through the Embassy, to provide the best possible service to Filipinos in The Netherlands.  He noted that with the newly-renovated chancery, the consular section has been widened and upgraded which will lead to better services for the Filipino-Dutch community. “Our embassy is  our “municipio” (municipal hall) in this country, and it should be a place which Filipinos can be proud of,” Ambassador Malaya said.

Labor Attaché Cruz presented the benefits of being a member of OWWA and encouraged Filipino workers in The Netherlands to consider joining this social insurance and welfare program, and if already a member, to keep their membership updated. He also presented OFW cards to those who earlier registered. He answered queries on labor issues faced by Filipino workers during the open forum.

Consul Jarie Osias similarly responded to questions regarding consular and assistance-to-national services which can be availed of at the Embassy.

During their 3-day visit, Labor Attaché Cruz and POLO staff member Mr. Rene N. Mangune who is based in Frankfurt, also met Dutch officials and private entities handling employment-related matters, particularly on Filipino seafarers.
