The Philippine Embassy commends the Kalayaan Fiesta Foundation in The Netherlands (KFFN), led by Ms. Maricel Manalo, President, and Mr. Jason Munoz, Project Leader, for the successful conduct of the KFFN’s Philippine Independence Day Picnic held on 11 June 2022 in commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence. The event was held at the Spaarnwoude Houtrak in Halfweg and was attended by some 10,000 people.
Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya and Consul General, a.h. in Amsterdam Eppo Horlings attended the community event and visited the different tents and pavilions in the picnic grounds to meet the various Filipino organizations and businesses who took part in the celebration.
The Embassy provided consular services during the event, including processing of passport applications and answering consular and other queries.
The KFFN has spearheaded the conduct of the Independence Day picnics since 2015, with the exception of the last two years due to the pandemic.
The Embassy likewise commends the organizers of the Independence Day Celebration on 12 June held at the Zuiderpark, The Hague, namely Ateneo Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship (Ateneo-LSE) Group, the Filipino Migrants in Solidarity (FILMIS), Jesus Is Lord – The Hague and the Migrante Netherlands.
Some 200 Filipino community members took part in the picnic celebration. Other groups which participated include the University of the Philippines Alumni Association – The Netherlands Chapter, Migrante Netherlands, Matthijs Group, SARO Community, MABIKAS, Media Correspondent and Volunteer Organization, and the Church of God.
