After a productive stint as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in The Hague (ACTH), Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya relinquishes the ACTH Chairmanship to H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Nadzirah binti Osman of Malaysia.
The ceremonial turnover was held on 19 January 2023, after the last ACTH meeting presided by Ambassador Malaya as Chair.
 
“Malaysia assumed the chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in The Hague today [19 January]. HE @NadzirahO wishes to express appreciation to the successful chairmanship of HE @malaya_ed of PH in the past 6 months, and look forward to working with acth.nl members for the next 6 months,” said by the Malaysian Embassy in the Netherlands (@myembnl) on a tweet Thursday, 19 January.
 
In a tweet reply, the Embassy (@PHinTheHague) remarked “We wish Amb. @NadzirahO a successful chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in The Hague. The five ASEAN Embassies in the Hague look forward to continually strengthening official and people-to-people ties with NL.”
 
Also present at the meeting were Ambassador Mayerfas of Indonesia, Ambassador Chatri Archjananun of Thailand, and Ambassador Pham Viet Anh of Viet Nam and the members of the ACTH Technical Working Group.
The meeting was followed by a luncheon hosted by Ambassador Malaya featuring the sumptuous Philippine cuisines, such chicken tinola soup, pandan rice and mixed vegetables, laing na isda (taro leaves in coconut milk), and chicken inasal (Filipino grilled chicken) prepared by Chef Irene Esquibil.
 
The Philippines was the chair of the ASEAN Committee in The Hague from 24 June 2022 to 19 January 2023. Among the activities undertaken were commemoration of ASEAN Day (5 August), ASEAN Village at The Hague Embassy Festival (3 September) and the ACTH Website and Online ASEAN Quiz, ASEAN Ambassadors’ Call on the Secretary General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and the Societeit de Witte Night with ASEAN Ambassadors (21 November).
 
Established in October 2015, the ACTH consists of ASEAN Ambassadors accredited to The Netherlands, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. It aims to promote ASEAN’s interests and identity in the Netherlands in line with the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.
