PROMOTION OF THE FILIPINO CUISINE AT THE TONG TONG FAIR

10 June 2016, The Hague - In line with the economic and cultural diplomacy program of the Philippine Embassy in The Hague, The Netherlands, the Embassy sponsored the participation of Ms. Irene Esquibil to the cooking demonstration at the 56th Tong Tong Fair, the biggest Eurasian fair in the world, held on 2 - 3 June 2016 at the Malieved Park in The Hague.
The Embassy supported Ms. Esquibil in her cooking demonstration with the aim of increasing the exposure of Filipino cuisine and products to the Dutch people.
On 2 June 2016, Ms. Esquibil presented Halo-Halo, the popular Filipino dessert especially during the summer season, to the Dutch visitors of the fair and demonstrated on how to cook the “Ube Halaya”, one of the main ingredients of Halo-Halo. On 3 June 2016, Ms. Esquibil demonstrated the preparation of “Laing”, one of the famous native dishes from the Bicol region.
Each cooking demonstration lasted for 60 minutes and was done in the Dutch language.
Ms. Esquibil, married to a Dutch national with four (4) children, is the owner of the Esquisine Catering Services in the Netherlands. In 2013, Ms. Esquibil was invited to cook “chicken relleno” during the fund raising event for the victims of typhoon Yolanda that was organized by aid agencies in the Netherlands. In 2014, Ms. Esquibil was featured at “Man bijt hond”, a tv program of NPO2 channel in the Netherlands.
