The 2017 ASEAN Film Festival featured ten films from the Philippines, Indonesian, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam depicting themes on inter-faith, love, marriage, heroism, life’s struggles, comedy, among others.
12 December 2017 – The Philippine Embassy in The Hague in partnership with the other resident ASEAN Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, collectively the ASEAN Committee in The Hague (ACTH) organized its first ASEAN Film Festival (AFF) from 8 to 10 December 2017. A total of ten full-length movies from each of these embassies were shown for free at Kinepolis Jaarbeurs Bioscoop in Utrecht. The Philippines’ K’na The Dreamweaver, inspired by the T’bolis and the diversity of Filipino cultural heritage and Across the Crescent Moon on inter-faith relatinships were the Festival’s opening and closing feature films in this 3-day festival that were attended by locals and expatriates alike and members of the various Filipino communities in the Netherlands. Philippine actress, Ms. Mara Lopez of “K’na …” and Mr. Wencelito and Mrs. Annie Andanar, major Muslim consultants of “Across…” attended this year’s AFF. AFF forms part of ACTH’s continuing year-round celebration of ASEAN@50 that aims to promote and increase awareness about ASEAN among concerned Dutch stakeholders, including members of the Dutch film industry.
